Agatha Stewart

Share

Agatha Stewart was a no nonsense, force to be reckoned with sort of woman and was part of the ‘Windrush Generation’ She was best known as the mother of the legendary singing group, the Singing Stewarts. She moved to England from Aruba in 1964 with her seven children, including Del McPherson who was born in England. It was Agatha who put the group together when they were living in Trinidad. At that time, the group consisted of Oscar, Ashmore, Frank, Phyllis, and Tim. She would also act as their conductor during rehearsals, keeping them in time with her hands by clapping once and then swaying her hand back and forth, repeating the pattern throughout the song. Her dedication and commitment to the group were invaluable and will always be remembered.
